30 Minutes Plank
18 Oct 2024
A month ago, my yoga instructor set me a simple yet powerful challenge: to hold a 1-minute plank every day for 30 days. She explained that by the end of the month, I’d have accumulated 30 minutes of planking—quite an achievement! Motivated, I took on the challenge, set up a habit tracker on my phone, and committed to incorporating this small action into my daily routine.
As the 30 days came to an end, here’s what I discovered:
- It wasn’t just about the plank itself, but about building trust with myself and sticking to a daily habit.
- I became more disciplined in other areas of my life—like cutting down on alcohol, limiting it to weekends or special occasions.
- I started making more mindful choices, especially with what I ate.
- With the above 3, there was a compounding effect and I effortlessly lost 1.5 kgs and felt fitter.
Today, I am a lot more aware of my daily decisions and their impact on me.
This experience reminded me of a quote from Atomic Habits:
Every action you take is a vote for the person you wish to become.
It’s a powerful reminder that small, consistent actions can lead to significant change.
Why not try something small for the next 30 days and see where it leads you?
My next challenge: doing 10 pushups a day for 30 days.
